Lip Service April 22, 2009

Christ taught:
“If you love Me, keep My commandments.” John 14:15 (NKJV)
A parallel statement is given in the apostle John’s first epistle:
“For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.” I John 5:3 (NKJV)
So many of us claim to love God, but our actions don’t match our words. How many of us merely give lip service to our Christian commitment?
Is foul language a regular part of your speech? Here is the command to us all:
“But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth.” Colossians 3:18 (NKJV)
Are you sexually active, but not married? Here is the command to us all:
“Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.” (KJV)
How often do you ‘take a drink?’ Here is the command to us all:
“And do not be drunk with wine….” Ephesians 5:18 (NKJV)
There are so many words, thoughts, and deeds that we burden ourselves with spiritually in post- post-modern daily life. But let’s remember that God appreciates consistency. If we desire peace after this life ends, we must prepare for Him:
“Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.” James 2:18 (NKJV)
